Put A Ring On It

We are all very familiar with power duos like Beyoncé and Jay Z, or D Squared² designers, Dean and Dan Caten, but there is now a new jewellery power duo on the block—a force to be reckoned with. Siblings, Zoe and Morgan, launched their jewellery label back in 2006 and, ever since, it has gained increasing momentum. Last night saw the launch of their AW14 Starlight collection at Start London in Shoreditch, and I thought it a no-brainer to see what they had to offer.
Travelling from Canary Wharf, I was by far the most brightly dressed person en route to Rivington Street, where the pavement outside the venue was adorned with gold and silver stars to mark the arrival of Zoe & Morgan’s collection. Once inside I was quickly steered to the complementary pop-up nail bar and the tarot readings they had available. Naturally drawn to the champagne (no surprises there) being handed out by Ross Hancock, I saw it as only logical that I follow this with the obligatory viewing of the collection.

Billed as being “crafted for the unique and a love of the extraordinary”, I found myself—for the most part—agreeing with this. One half of the collection has been designed solely by Zoe and Morgan; it features many a crescent moon shape as well as stars and lightning bolts. Elegant and feminine designs abound and without using hearts or flowers that are all too familiar in women’s jewellery these days.
One piece that particularly stood out to me was the shooting stats ring which was a bold, statement piece of jewellery and one that I had and increased appreciation for after speaking to Morgan, the designer. The inspiration for that particular ring, and indeed much of the collection came from their travels to New Guinea when Morgan was laying under the stars one evening and witnessed a meteor shower… creating this collection with that in mind.
I did overhear one gentleman at the event describe some of the pieces as “very pointy, something you could easily hurt someone with”, which illustrates a slight disadvantage to designing razor-like, lightning bolt shaped jewellery, but I confess it is uniquely beautiful, nonetheless.
The other half of their collection, the “Eye of the Tiger”, is Zoe & Morgan’s collaboration with tattoo artist and illustrator Minka Sicklinger. These designs are more quirky and are perhaps more suited to a very specific taste. Some described the pieces as “oriental” but I’d add that it has hints of art deco design, making it quirkily beautiful.
Zoe & Morgan’s collection is definitely worth a look as there are some stunning and unusual pieces that would suit any woman—and even some men—(if you’re up to the challenge). Either way, if you get a chance, head over to the Start London store in Shoreditch to check it out.
